Kuala Lumpur is the capital and largest city of Malaysia. In November 2018, the world city rankings were released and Kuala Lumpur entered the ranks of the world's first-tier cities.
Kuala Lumpur is a cosmopolitan city with great influence on culture, education, sports, finance, economy, commerce and finance in Southeast Asia. Since many international diplomatic conferences held in Southeast Asia will be held in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, Kuala Lumpur is also regarded as one of the two centers of Southeast Asian diplomacy. Kuala Lumpur has also been named the “World Book Capital” by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Kuala Lumpur is also home to many institutions of higher learning at home and abroad. In the 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the top two local universities, the University of Malaya (UM) and the University of Raman (UTAR), are located in Kuala Lumpur. The towering and spectacular Petronas Twin Towers is a famous landmark in Kuala Lumpur, and together with the surrounding high-rise buildings symbolizes Malaysia's future prosperity.
